PLANNING AND LISTED BUILDING APPROVAL.
Today we recieved formal notification that we have opbtained approval for this application to extend and alter this fine detached dwelling house in Broughty Ferry, Dundee.
The house is a B Listed dwelling designed and built in the 1960’s of the modernist style and by the locally significant architect James Parr. The house is modernist in style with fine geometrical shaping and resolutions to fit into to the south facing steep site by using layers of complexity and interlocking internal volumes. The house’s listed status is well deserved.
The proposal sought to extend in two directions – out to the north east, and upwards to create a new level.
The extension out to the north east is to create additional functional internal areas for the applicants to enjoy the existing house and the new Upper Sun Room is to take the opportunity to provide a relaxed sitting area where the applicants may enjoy the site’s wonderful aspect but from an elevated position. The new room will be constructed of clear glass on all sides (opaque to the east) and a flat roof.
The external appearance, the scale, the detail and the finish is intended to accurately reflect the existing architecture. It is not intended to appear as an intervention, but rather respectfully compliment the listed architecture and to feel – in time – as though it were part of the original design.
